Everything you Need to Know

The Fort-to-Fort River Expedition is a wilderness-paddling race. Participants should expect to spend many hours at a time out of sight of any boat or person.  Teams should realize that things can and do go wrong.  Teams should be equipped to be self sufficient for at least one or more nights if necessary.

Teams are to be prepared and capable of immediate self-preservation. If you end up an hour from nearest help and find yourself in the water it will be up to you to recover the situation. If you stop you will need to keep warm and dry that means a shelter and sleeping bag. You may have to carry some extra gear that won’t be used but it may make the difference. Do not be over confident and skimp on safety equipment.

 1.        The race start will be at Rocky Mountain House National Historic site on 5 Aug 2006 at a time TBD.  The start will be a Le Mans style start. Starts later then 30 minutes from the official start time will be considered a no show.

A complete breakdown of l-w ratios of most kayak brands can be found at www.soundrowers.org. If your kayak is not on the list of acceptable sea kayaks below, please contact the us giving the model’s length-width specifications or a manufacturer’s website, to ensure your kayak will be allowed entry.
